Florida Department of Law Enforcement Unveils New BusinesSafe Program

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement in partnership with Florida’s seven Regional Domestic Security Task Forces has launched BusinesSafe, a new web based counter-terrorism initiative which provides Florida’s businesses with timely and important domestic security related information.  BusinesSafe is a state program designed to support, supplement and enhance local outreach programs.  This is the first program of its kind in the nation and will actively involve local businesses in protecting Florida’s residents and visitors from threats whether man-made or natural.

Access to BusinesSafe will be via links on FDLE’s home page and Office of Domestic Security web site.  The BusinesSafe website will provide the following services:

  • Industry/business-specific Fact Sheets, patterned after a program created by the New York City Police Department following 9/11/01
  • The ability to sign up for electronic alert notifications via e-mail, cellular phones and PDAs, to provide business specific information about breaking news, possible threats, suspicious activity and specific preparedness techniques
  • The ability to immediately report unusual, or possibly threatening, activity to local law enforcement agencies, regional FDLE offices, or to Crime Stoppers
  • Links to a United States Department of Homeland Security registration site for access to vital information on how to better protect businesses from security breaches

A letter from Commissioner Bailey has been mailed out to approximately 3000+ business associations and vendors in Florida to notify them of the launching of this new tool.  Additionally, the BusinesSafe website will provide regional contact information and downloadable awareness items such as brochures and posters.

The private sector plays a vital role in our critical infrastructure initiatives therefore, any outreach programs will represent how proactive the state of Florida and its Regional Domestic Security Task Forces are with forming private sector partnerships.

To access BusinesSafe log on to: http://www.fdle.state.fl.us/BSafe/ , or visit the Florida Department of Law Enforcement home page http://www.fdle.state.fl.us/ and click on BusinesSafe on the right side of the page.
