Stop Hometown Democracy Amendment

Continued Support Needed to Stop Irresponsible “Hometown Democracy” Amendment

Despite recent changes that require increased voter approval to alter the Florida Constitution, another irresponsible amendment is being promoted by extreme special interests. The so-called “Hometown Democracy” amendment, a statewide “Vote on Everything” initiative, would imperil Florida’s prosperity and quality of life.

We need your help right now to stop it.

Unable to generate any real grassroots support in Florida, Hometown Democracy is flying in even more out-of-state petition circulators. The Florida Chamber learned today that Hometown has rehired a team of professional signature gatherers based out-of-state and directed them to focus on petition gathering in Miami-Dade and Broward counties. This is in addition to the 10 out of state gatherers Hometown shipped in last week to work the Orlando area.

To help stop this Amendment, the Florida Chamber encourages Floridians to do the following:

  1. If you encounter Hometown petition gatherers anywhere across the state, e-mail Floridians for Smarter Growth at dpage@flsmartergrowth.org, or call the petition gathering hotline at 1-888-425-1234. Please include the date, time, location, and number of circulators in your e-mail or phone message.
  2. If you have already signed a petition and would like your name removed, Save Our Constitution, a group backed by the powerful Associated Industries of Florida, won a court ruling Tuesday allowing it to continue asking voters to revoke their support of the anti-sprawl petition. For more information please visit http://www.takebackmysignature.com/
  3. Review the Property Rights Protection Kit to learn more about the tools you’ll need to exercise your rights and protect your property.

Please forward this message to colleagues, associates, members, and friends across the state, particularly in the targeted areas of Orange, Broward, and Miami-Dade, and ask them to help stop this Amendment.

You can also contribute funds to Floridians for Smarter Growth. Please review this letter from Carol Dover for more information on how you can contribute.
